The Network Security Toolkit (NST) was designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed Network Security Applications. The main intent of developing this toolkit was to provide the security professional and network administrator with a comprehensive set of Open Source Network Security Tools. The majority of tools published in the article: Top 125 Security Tools by INSECURE.ORG are available in the toolkit. An advanced Web User Interface (WUI) is provided for system/network administration, navigation, automation, network monitoring, host geolocation, network analysis and configuration of many network and security applications found within the NST distribution. In the virtual world, NST can be used as a network security analysis validation and monitoring tool on enterprise virtual servers hosting virtual machines.

Admin (root) and safer (system user) options for file managers, command line terminals, and antivirus applications.
DDRescue-GUI is a graphical interface for the ddrescue data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying to rescue the good parts first in case of read errors. If you use the logfile feature, the data is rescued very efficiently, (only the needed blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume it later at the same point. Although designed for data rescue, it's also a great application for creating duplicates of USB Flash drives as well as hard drives.
Gdiskdump (DD GUI) is a graphical interface for the famous GNU dd command line application which helps you easily create duplicates of files, partitions, or devices such as USB flash drives, hard drives, and optical media.
dc3dd GUI is a graphical interface for dd3dd, a patched version of GNU dd with added features for computer forensics. It was developed at the DoD Cyber Crime Center.
Autopsy / The Sleuth Kit is one of the better known forensics applications. Autopsy is a graphical interface to the command line digital investigation analysis tools in The Sleuth Kit. Together, they can analyze Windows and UNIX disks and file systems (NTFS, FAT, UFS1/2, Ext2/3). Autopsy provides a "File Manager"-like interface and shows details about deleted data and file system structures.
Guymager is a Forensic Imaging Tool for media acquisition featuring a fast mutli-thread imaging process.
Digital Forensics Framawork (DFF) can be used both by professional and non-expert people in order to quickly and easily collect, preserve and reveal digital evidences without compromising systems and data. Documentation such as the quick start guide, and user manual available within the application.
R-Linux is a very good file recover utility for file systems used in the Linux OS and several Unixes. R-Linux uses unique IntelligentScan technology and flexible parameter settings to give you real control over the fastest data recovery ever seen. It recovers files from existing partitions even when file records are lost.
Grsync uses the famous rsync command to sync local and remote files and directory structures.
Gparted and the KDE Partition Manager are partition editors for graphically managing disk partitions. You can resize, copy, and move partitions without data loss, enabling you to grow or shrink your C: drive, create space for new operating systems, and attempt data rescue from lost partitions. And the option to check and repair partitions can be extremely useful.
Logical Volume Manager (KVPM) allows you to manage logical volume filesystems. Supported filesystems: btrfs, ext, reiser, reiser4, ntfs, ms-dos, xfs, jfs.
GSmartControl is a SMART data controller for monitoring and controlling SMART data on hard disks.

QPx Tool is an application for checking the quality of optical media (CDs & DVDs).
ClamAV is an auto updating antivirus for removing viruses and other malicious software.
Zenmap is a cross-platform GUI for the Nmap Security Scanner.
Transmission is a fast and easy to use graphical BitTorrent client which can be used to publish or download electronic content.
Gftp is a graphical FTP client for transfering recovered or imaged data to another computer or server.
CD/DVD Burner for saving extracted data to optical discs.
