Product Details
Xubuntu, pronounced as Zooboontoo, is a complete GNU/Linux based operating system with an Ubuntu base. It is lighter
on system requirements and tends to be more efficient than Ubuntu with
GNOME or KDE, since it uses the Xfce Desktop environment,
which makes it ideal for old or low-end machines, thin-client networks,
or for those who would like to get more performance out of their
hardware.
Minimum system requirements:
- To run the
Desktop CD (LiveCD + Install CD), you need 128 MB RAM,
when using the Alternate Install CD you can do with 64 MB.
- To install
Xubuntu, you need 1.5 GB of free space on your hard disk.
- Once
installed, Xubuntu can run with 64 MB RAM, but it is
strongly recommended to use at least 128 MB RAM.
The Xubuntu
Manifesto -
The team behind Xubuntu makes the following public commitment to its
users:
- Xubuntu will
always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee
for the "enterprise edition", we make our very best work available to
everyone on the same Free terms.
- Xubuntu
includes the very best in translations and accessibility
infrastructure that the Free Software community has to
offer, to make
Xubuntu usable by as many people as possible.
- Xubuntu is
released regularly and predictably; a new release is
made every six months. You can use the current stable release or the
current development release. Each release is supported with security
updates for at least 18 months.
- Xubuntu is
entirely committed to the principles of free and open
source software development; we encourage people to use
free and open
source software, improve it and pass it on.
Ubuntu does not
yet have Xubuntu discs available through ShipIt, so we can't support it
by pre-purchasing discs from Ubuntu. Therefore Xubuntu discs are
produced using the normal On-Disk.com "Burn-on-demand" model.
