The Complete Ubuntu Software Repository , as of Oct 2, 2009 is available on either 7 standard DVDs, or 4 Dual Layer DVDs. This software set is created for Ubuntu 8.10 for use with all Ubuntu Based Operating systems including Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Eeebuntu and any others based on 8.10.

What this means is the thousands of software applications available for Ubuntu can be installed directly from the DVDs using the same Add/Remove Applications (Synaptic Package Manager) that you normally use.

Notes:

• There are both 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit (x86_64, AMD64) versions available. Please make sure you get the version you purchase matches the version installed on your computer.
• The 32 bit (x86) version listed here will work on both 32 and 64 bit PCs where the 32 bit (x86) version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu Server, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Xubuntu, or Ubuntu Studio is installed.
• The 64 bit (x86_64, AMD64) version will only work with 64 bit computers with a 64 bit (x86_64, AMD64) installation of Ubuntu, Ubuntu Server, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Xubuntu, or Ubuntu Studio.
• Includes everything from Intrepid, Intrepid-Security, Intrepid-Updates, and Intrepid-Backports for Main, Restricted, Universe, and Multiverse sections.

Usage:

1. Open "Synaptic Package Manager" directly, not the "Add/Remove..." menu item. Normally Synaptic is found under "System" in the main menu. If for some reason Synaptic is not installed, you will need to install it first or use the terminal method as described in the notes below.
2. Click the "Edit" menu item at the top then on "Add CD-ROM..."
3. Select the option to add another disc until they have all been added. You will be prompted for the correct disc when they are required during software installation.
   
   Notes: (1) In some instances you may need to symlink /cdrom to the correct device. This usually happens if you have an odd hardware/drive configuration or if you have removed additional hard drives from your installed system. (2) Instead of the procedure above you can open a terminal and use the command # sudo apt-cdrom add

• A computer with Ubuntu 8.10 (or derivative) installed.
• If you wish to use the Dual Layer DVD set make sure you have a DVD drive capable of reading Dual layer DVD+R media. Most newer DVD drives can read these, but you may want to check with the documentation that came with your DVD drive, or consult the manufacturer.

Support should not be required if your system is working properly and the instructions on DVD #1 are followed.
